Hong Kong Mediation Council Limited ("HKMCL") is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center.
This is a five-day 40-hour intensive program delves into the range of skills required of facilitation mediators through interactive tutorials and role-play simulations. Participants are offered insights into ethical dilemmas, implicit bias, and emotions, and they are trained in tested practical techniques such as active listening, asking probing questions, generating creative options, reframing, overcoming impasse, and formulating sustainable agreements.
This training serves as a preparatory course (so called "Stage 1 Mediation Training Course") for the General Mediator Accreditation by the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited. Participants upon satisfactory completion of the Course may become a HKMCL Associate Member.

Josephine Ma
Trainer
Josephine Ma is the Vice Chairperson of Hong Kong Mediation Council Limited.
Josephine is an experienced solicitor and mediator with a career spanning over two decades. She specializes in high conflict general, commercial and family mediations, utilizing a diverse range of methodologies such as facilitative, transformative, evaluative, therapeutic, and high conflict mediation techniques. Josephine's expertise allows her to effectively guide parties towards resolving their conflicts. In addition to her mediation practice, she is a respected educator in the field, providing General Mediator Accreditation Training and serving as a Family Mediation Supervisor. Josephine has enriched the skills of over 1,000 professionals in Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China, sharing her insights into mediation styles and the psychological principles of conflict resolution.
Having achieved success, Josephine is committed to giving back to the community through engaging her mediation skills. For over a decade, Josephine has served as the lead trainer for peer mediation training programs for secondary and primary school students to groom a next generation of peacemakers. She aspires to spread peace and harmony by instilling a mediator mindset in youngsters.
Jacky Lai

Jacky Lai is Director and Chairperson of the General Mediation Division of HKMC. As a veteran ADR professional having mediated over 850 cases, Jacky has trained mediation in universities and professional groups in business, personal injury, insurance, banking, and family settings. Jacky’s training repertoire runs the entire dispute management continuum, from dispute prevention, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, adjudication, to litigation. For more than 16 years, Jacky has a full practice as a barrister where he successfully assists clients to resolve all kinds of disputes. Currently he serves as an accredited mediator on both the General and Family panels of HKIAC and Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited.
