Medical Intermediation in the US: Resolving Health Care Disputes with Dignity and Respect
When someone experiences a serious illness or injury that requires medical treatment or hospitalization, it is not unusual for the patient and their family members to experience a high level of stress. If patients or their families believe that doctors, nurses, hospital staff or administrators are not providing them with an appropriate level of care, attention, service or respect, frustrations may build. Some health care organizations in the United States have found that patients, families, medical providers and staff can successfully resolve their differences through a process called intermediation. In intermediation, patients, families, doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff members meet with a mediator who is chosen by the patients/families and paid for by the health care provider. The mediator facilitates confidential and honest discussions between the parties regarding the concerns or issues that arose when the patient was hospitalized or receiving medical treatment. Through a respectful and dignified discussion, many issues related to care and service can be resolved to everyone's satisfaction.
The webinar will be held in English via Zoom.
