The Hong Kong Mediation Council (HKMC) intends to host a series of Webinars in order to update the knowledge of mediators and hone their practical skills. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, seminars will not be held physically but conducted online via ZOOM.
This Webinar would be delivered in English and share some tips for mediators' conducting mediation online through video conferencing platforms or softwares. It is the 1st of two Webinar series for online mediation, and would cover the following topics:
- Some protocol and ground rules (this may include security and etiquette issues;
- Preparing for an online mediation from start to finish: this may include different phases:
- what a mediator should do at the pre-mediation stage/communication with the parties and lawyers;
- what complications a mediator and lawyers and parties may encounter at the start of the on-line process;
- on the mediation day; and
- execution of documents

The target audience is general mediators and legal practitioners including in-house counsels.

There will be a short quiz at the conclusion of the Webinar in the form of multiple choice questions on the content of the Webinar. The satisfactory completion of the multiple choice questions will serve as an actual proof of attendance in compliance with the requirements from CPD awarding bodies.

Vod Chan
Former Chairman, HKMC
Vod is a Former Chairman of HKMC. In addition to being a practising barrister and arbitrator, he is an accredited general and family mediator of HKMAAL, HKIAC and HK Bar Association. He now chairs the Management Committee of the West Kowloon Mediation Centre. Moreover, he is a member of the Steering Committee on Mediation chaired by the Secretary for Justice, and a member of the HKTDC’s Professional Services Advisory Committee. He is a veteran commercial mediator. He also acts as an advocate in mediation, and plays a role as trainer, coach or assessor of mediator accreditation.
Jody Sin
Vice-Chairperson, HKMC
Jody is currently the Vice-Chairperson of HKMC. She is an accredited mediator of HKMAAL, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and Hong Kong Law Society, an IMI Certified Mediator and a Distinguished Fellow of International Academy of Mediators. She has been awarded the Weinstein JAMS International Fellowship in 2019. She has substantial experience in mediating disputes of different nature, from commercial, employment, shareholder to insurance disputes. She is a seasoned trainer and teacher of mediation courses.
David Luk
Committee Member and Co-Chairman of Commercial Mediation Interest Group, HKMC
David is a Committee Member of HKMC and the Co-Chairman of Commercial Mediation Interest Group of HKMC. He is a solicitor qualified in Hong Kong SAR, an accredited mediator on various panels of professional bodies and an arbitrator. He has experience in acting as mediator and advising international and domestic clients on mediation.
