The Hong Kong Mediation Council (HKMC) holds webinars under different topics in order to update the knowledge of mediators and hone their practical skills. The webinars are conducted online via ZOOM.


This will be the 6th webinar in the series which will look at the use of advocacy in mediation. It will discuss the proper role and essential skills of a mediation advocate. The target audience is accredited mediators and legal practitioners including in-house counsel as well as other professionals in mediation. The webinar will be presented by four speakers who are all current or past chairpersons of HKMC, and will cover the following topics:


  • Basics of mediation advocacy
  • The role of mediation advocates
  • Diagnosing misuse and abuse of advocacy in mediation
  • How can advocates effectively prepare for a mediation session?
  • Joint session: how to achieve a balance of assertion and inquiry?
  • Strategic use of caucuses in the negotiation phase

There will be a short quiz at the conclusion of the Webinar in the form of multiple choice questions on the content of the Webinar. The satisfactory completion of the multiple choice questions will serve as an actual proof of attendance in compliance with the requirements from CPD awarding bodies.
