Led by our Chairman Christopher To, this five-day 40-hour intensive program delves into the range of skills required of elite mediators through interactive tutorials and role-play simulations. Participants are offered insights into ethical dilemmas, implicit bias, and emotions, and they are trained in tested practical techniques such as active listening, asking probing questions, generating creative options, reframing, overcoming impasse, and formulating sustainable agreements.

This live programme will run April 15, 16, 22, 23, and 30 for the Cantonese course and May 13, 20, 21, 27, and 28 for the English course from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hong Kong time. There will be an hour-long lunch and short breaks throughout the day. An English training manual will be distributed during the course, and there will be assigned readings.

Christopher To is Chairperson of HKMC. Recognised by the International Who’s Who Legal as a Thought Leader in mediation and arbitration, Christopher has mediated more than 700 cases over three decades and sits on 40 ADR panels globally. As Programme Director, he teaches and designs the program for Master of Laws in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution at City University of Hong Kong. Christopher has also authored 14 books on dispute resolution by publishers such as Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, Butterworths, and LexisNexis. In addition, Christopher contributes to the drafting of the model text on dispute resolution at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
Josephine Ma is the Vice Chairperson of Hong Kong Mediation Council Limited and Chairperson of the Family Mediation Division. As a trained psychologist and solicitor, Josephine has over 20 years of experience mediating a variety of disputes worldwide, while specializing in family mediation in recent years. She has mediated hundreds of disputes with a near-perfect success rate and is well-versed in a spectrum of mediation approaches. She has trained more than 1,000 professionals in Hong Kong, Macau, and China in different styles of mediation and the psychology of mediation.
Josephine has over 13 years of experience assessing general mediator accreditation. Currently she is an assessor for mediation accreditation at Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited.
Having achieved success, Josephine is committed to giving back to the community through engaging her mediation skills. For over a decade, Josephine has served as the lead trainer for peer mediation training programs for secondary and primary school students to groom a next generation of peacemakers. She aspires to spread peace and harmony by instilling a mediator mindset in youngsters.
Jacky Lai is Director and Chairperson of the General Mediation Division of HKMC. As a veteran ADR professional having mediated over 850 cases, Jacky has trained mediation in universities and professional groups in business, personal injury, insurance, banking, and family settings. Jacky’s training repertoire runs the entire dispute management continuum, from dispute prevention, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, adjudication, to litigation. For more than 16 years, Jacky has a full practice as a barrister where he successfully assists clients to resolve all kinds of disputes. Currently he serves as an accredited mediator on both the General and Family panels of HKIAC and Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited.
