Mariel Dimsey, Secretary-General at HKIAC, Annett Rombach, Partner at Klinkert Partners and Anna Masser, Partner at Allen & Overy, will discuss the appointment of arbitrators from an institutional, an arbitrator's and a party representative's perspective, and will provide answers to the questions you've always wanted answered!
Anna heads the international arbitration practice in Germany. She focuses on international commercial arbitration and advises on all stages of dispute resolution.
Anna acts as lead counsel in international commercial arbitrations, in particular in the energy, plant engineering and renewable energies sectors. She also advises on disputes under long-term contracts in general. She has experience of conducting arbitrations under a wide range of rules including those of the ICC, SCAI, DIS, LCIA, SCC, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations also under UNCITRAL rules. She was qualified in Switzerland until 2016 and advises on German and Swiss law issues. She equally deals with issues relating to the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and judgments and is regularly appointed as arbitrator. Anna is a CEDR Accredited Mediator.
Anna is the only arbitration lawyer in Germany being singled out as “Thought Leader” by Who’s Who Legal in 2023 and she is recognized as Global Leader in arbitration. She is ranked by Chambers as Band 4 counsel Europe wide and is singled out by JUVE. She is member of the ASA board, serves as a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and is a Vice President of the Chinese European Arbitration Center.
Dr. Mariel Dimsey is Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre responsible for its international dispute resolution services and operations from Hong Kong, Seoul, and Shanghai. She is an international commercial and investment arbitration specialist.
Prior to joining the HKIAC, Mariel was a Partner at CMS and Co-Head of the global CMS International Arbitration Group. She has over 15 years’ experience acting as adviser and advocate in numerous international arbitrations. She has extensive experience in both common law and civil law disputes, including disputes involving Chinese parties, and has full professional fluency in German. She also sits regularly as arbitrator and has experience as arbitrator under the HKIAC, ICC, KCAB, and DIS Rules, and in ad hoc disputes. She is on the arbitrator panels of several institutions.
She is a past co-chair of the HK45 Committee, and a member of the WILHK Advisory Board. She is consistently ranked in both the regional and global editions of the leading legal directories.
Mariel has a Dr. iur. (summa cum laude) from the University of Basel, an LLM from the University of Cologne and an LLB/BA (Business German) from the University of Queensland. She is admitted to practice law in Australia and Hong Kong.
Annett Rombach, LL.M. (University of Miami), Partner, berät umfassend bei internationalen Handels-, IP- und Sportsstreitigkeiten vor Schiedsgerichten und staatlichen Gerichten. Sie verfügt über besondere Erfahrung bei der anwaltlichen Begleitung internationaler Schiedsverfahren nach den Regeln aller führenden Schiedsinstitutionen. Ein weiterer ihrer Tätigkeitsschwerpunkte liegt im Sportrecht. Sie berät Profi Sportler, Clubs, Verbände und Vermarktungsagenturen in allen sportbezogenen juristischen Fragen.
Annett Rombach ist Schiedsrichterin beim Internationalen Sportgerichtshof in Lausanne (CAS), beim Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) in Genf und beim Court of Innovative Arbitration in Zürich (COIA). Auch bei anderen Schiedsinstitutionen (z.B. ICC, DIS) wird sie regelmäßig als Schiedsrichterin ernannt. Als Schiedsrichterin war sie bisher in mehr als 180 Verfahren tätig.
Frau Rombach ist Lehrbeauftragte an der Universität Zürich im LL.M.-Studiengang für den Bereich International Commercial Arbitration und an der Sporthochschule Köln am Institut für Sportökonomie und Sportmanagement.
