Professor Kun Fan is Associate Professor of UNSW Law and a member of UNSW’s Herbert Smith Freehills China International Business and Economic Law Centre. She is an award-winning scholar in the area of international arbitration, mediation, comparative legal studies, and cultural study of law. Before joining UNSW in September 2019, she held academic positions at the Faculty of Law, McGill University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She was also a Visiting Scholar of the Harvard Yenching Institute.

Professor Fan is author of the book Arbitration in China: A Legal and Cultural Analysis (Hart Publishing) and has published extensively on cutting-edge issues in a variety of leading international journals. She is frequently invited to speak in conferences, and give lectures and trainings in renowned institutions including Harvard Law School, Harvard Yenching Institute, Cornell Law School, Qinghua University, School of International Arbitration at Queen Mary, Geneva LLM in International Dispute Settlement (“MIDS”), Arbitration Academy, Asian Development Bank, Institute of Transnational Arbitration, International Law Institute, International Bar Association, etc. In recognition of her academic contribution, she was named the Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Scholar in Arbitration & Commercial Law in 2017, and received numerous awards.

Apart from academic research, Professor Fan also has extensive experience in ADR practice, and has worked as counsel, legal expert, secretary for the arbitration tribunal, arbitrator and domain names panelist in a number of international arbitrations and domain name disputes, and has overseen over a hundred arbitrations administered by the ICC International Court of Arbitration when she worked as a Deputy Counsel. She is called to the New York Bar, a Member of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration Academic Council, an Executive Committee Member of International Task Force on Mixed Mode Dispute Resolution, an Executive Council Member of the China Academy of Arbitration Law, a Domain Names Panelist of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (“HKIAC”) and the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (“ADNDRC”), a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, an Accredited Mediator of the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited, and an Arbitrator of a number of arbitration institutions in China. She has rendered numberous domain names decisions as a sole panelist and presiding panelist, including supreme.com.cn (CNDPR Decision DCN-1900893), ibm.cn (CNDRP Decision DCN-1800797), haitao.com (ADNDRC Decision HK-1300498), renzhongren.com (ADNDRC Decision HK-1701010), shanghai-disneyland.com.cn (CNDRP Decision DCN-1100445), amazoncloud.cn (CNDRP Decision DCN-1200504), etc.

Sarah Grimmer is Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). She was formerly Senior Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) where she acted as registrar in several inter-State arbitrations under the Law of the Sea Convention and served as tribunal secretary in multiple investment treaty arbitrations and contract-based claims.

Prior to joining the PCA, Sarah served as Assistant Counsel at the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris. She was also a member of the international arbitration group at Shearman & Sterling LLP in Paris, prior to which she worked in private practice in Auckland.

In 2015, Sarah was appointed to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon Disciplinary Board. She is a member of the ICCA-ASIL Task Force on Damages (2016), ICCA Publications Committee (2015), the IBA Investment Arbitration Subcommittee (2014), New Zealand ICC Arbitration Committee (2014), and the IBA Arb40 Steering Committee (2013).

Sebastian has a broad civil litigation, arbitration and mediation practice, including intellectual property, commercial, white collar fraud, insolvency, company, employment, matrimonial finance, and costs/taxation matters. Sebastian is rated by Chambers Asia-Pacific (2016-2018 editions) and WTR 1000 (2013-2018 editions) as a leading barrister for intellectual property matters.

Sebastian is a Fellow of CIArb and a WIPO Approved Neutral. He is an Arbitrator and Mediator with WIPO, HKIAC (Panel of Arbitrators for Intellectual Property Disputes; List of Arbitrators), SCIA and AIAC. Sebastian is a Domain Name Panelist with WIPO, FORUM, HKIAC, ADNDRC and AIAC, rendering decisions in both English and Chinese.

Sebastian was admitted to practice as a solicitor in Victoria, Australia in 1998 and in Hong Kong in 2003. Prior to being called to the bar, he was a partner in an international law firm.

Sebastian is a fluent Putonghua speaker.
