Guy is a Partner with Deloitte China Financial Advisory. He is a Lead Partner in our Dispute Services and Private/Family matters.
Guy specializes in estate management and disputes work, and other court appointments, as well as legal and regulatory matters. With 29 years in Hong Kong/China, he has been heavily involved in the administration of a number of family matters and has led several engagements including appointments made under the Companies Ordinance, the Probate and Administration Ordinance and the Mental Health Ordinance. Of publicly known matters, Guy was involved in the Estate of Nina Kung (a.k.a. Nina Wang), the Estate of Wang Teh Huei and the Estate of Mui Yim Fong.
Guy’s experience includes oversight of companies or businesses in the context of estates, as well as shareholder or family disputes. He has been dealing with trust, probate, and other family matters for the last 20 years in Hong Kong. From these and other engagements, Guy has substantial experience in managing individuals’ property and affairs in situations of varying complexity.
Guy currently handles similar or analogous matters for 6-7 families in Hong Kong.
Guy has also worked in asset-tracing, litigation support and expert witness engagements. He has acted as an expert or factual witness in numerous court proceedings and tribunals.
Yvonne has a predominantly civil practice, with a special focus on shareholder disputes, company matters and corporate & personal insolvency. Yvonne is also experienced in handling civil fraud, commercial dispute and contract cases, and in advising IPO companies on non-compliance issues.
Yvonne’s experience in the commercial world is extensive. Before being called to the Bar, she had held directorate positions with multi-national trust and financial institutions as well as corporate services groups for many years. She has over 20 years’ experience in dealing with companies, trusts and commercial matters.
Yvonne has been an Accredited Mediator of Centre of Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) in England since 2010, and an Accredited Mediator of Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited (HKMAAL) since 2013. Yvonne is also an Associate Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators.
Yvonne was qualified for the Trust and Estate Practitioner designation (TEP) of Society for Trust and Estate Planners in 2004.
Yvonne is an appointed member of the Board of Review (Inland Revenue Ordinance). She is a frequent speaker at CPD seminars, seminars hosted by the Restructuring and Insolvency Faculty (RIF) of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Shanghai Bar Association and the Hangzhou Bar Association.
Queenie Lau is described by Legal 500 as “an eloquent advocate, [who] handles difficult legal issues very elegantly on her feet. An incredibly bright junior who communicates very well with judges.” Legal 500 has ranked her in the top category of leading Hong Kong juniors for commercial disputes and employment law. Chambers Asia also describes Queenie as “definitely a rising star”, “one of the most meticulous junior barristers in town” and “one of the most responsive and hard-working junior barristers at Temple Chambers”; “thorough in her legal analysis, her work is always excellent and she is dedicated and consistently on top of the details of her cases”.
Queenie has a broad, predominantly civil, practice which includes commercial law, securities and regulatory matters, banking, company law, land law, conveyancing, building management, professional negligence, employment law, family law, defamation, probate and commercial fraud. She has been instructed by a media conglomerate to advise and act for it in a range of cases, acts for the Securities and Futures Commission as well as parties under investigation, and also acts both for and against banks. She has substantial trial and appellate experience both as an advocate in her own right and as junior counsel.
Queenie is also regularly involved in arbitration and mediation, and has experience conducting both arbitrations and mediations in Putonghua. Who’s Who Legal (Mainland China & Hong Kong SAR - Arbitration) has reported that Queenie “gains impressive endorsements for her arbitration practice, with peers highlighting her ‘strong legal skills and wide range of experience’”.
Jody steered into a new path of career after representing clients in civil litigations for more than a decade. As a litigation lawyer, Jody has represented major local and international corporations, listed companies in a wide variety of disputes including commercial litigation, building management disputes, property-related litigation, arbitration, insurance, personal injury and health and safety litigation.
Since 2001, Jody has become an accredited mediator under Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. She has successfully and amicably mediated a broad range of cases including commercial and contractual disputes, personal injury and employees' compensation claims, employment matters, building management disputes as well as shareholders and probate disputes.
Currently, she is also an accredited mediator under the Hong Kong Law Society General Panel, and an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Hong Kong, School for Professional and Continuing Education ("HKU SPACE"). In addition, Jody has been actively involved in teaching and coaching numerous accredited mediator courses organized by the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Law Society, and City University of Hong Kong. She has been appointed as an Adjunct Lecturer of HKU SPACE where she has been teaching the Chinese accredited mediator course "Mediation Practice".
Jody has a genuine passion and interest for mediation. She approaches each mediation with abundant preparation, utmost professionalism and strives for the most satisfying outcome for the parties. She believes that each dispute is unique, having its own obstacles in terms of people, process and substance. It is only when there is effective strategy and preparation combined with perseverance and patience that a strong foundation could be built for the resolution of disputes.
Jeffrey has been with Deloitte for 16 years. He specialises in financial analysis, financial modelling, operational and corporate restructuring and sensitive family matters including disputes and affairs of the family members.
Jeffrey has participated in engagements relating to business and organisation restructuring, capital and debt restructuring, schemes of arrangement, resumption of trading, Hong Kong & overseas liquidation, corporate receivership, financial analysis and financial monitoring.
Previously, he has provided advisory services to listed and private clients in Hong Kong and various overseas jurisdictions in a wide range of industries.
Jeffrey worked on several due diligence, investigation and financial monitoring projects on several Hong Kong listed and private companies and its PRC subsidiaries which involved investigations on various aspects, historical business transactions of the companies and their directors.
Jeffrey is a core engagement team member of a number of family matters engagements including engagements where the family members are already in disputes and family members that are in the pre-disputes stage. These engagements involves reviewing accounting entries, interviewing relevant personnel, investigation on historical business transactions as well as monitoring the monthly operation activates and the corresponding accounting entries.
He is also a core team member of Family Enterprise Consulting where he is working with a number of family offices and high-net worth clients including estate administration, succession planning, prevention of disagreement by implementing proactive measures, providing advisory services on the family office / trust structure and governance.
