The Hong Kong Mediation Council (HKMC) intends to host a series of webinars under different topics in order to update the knowledge of mediators and hone their practical skills. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the seminars will not be held physically but conducted online via ZOOM.


This Webinar will be delivered in English and panel speakers will discuss and share their experiences in conducting mediation online. The discussions will cover the following topics:

  • Some protocol and ground rules (this may include security and etiquette issues);
  • Preparing for an online mediation from start to finish;
  • What a mediator should do at the pre-mediation stage/communication with the parties and lawyers;
  • Complications that a mediator, lawyers and parties may encounter at the start of the on-line process;
  • Things to watch out on the mediation day; and
  • The execution of documents

A sequel on this topic focusing on technical online skills is planned June 2020.

The target audience is general mediators and legal practitioners including in-house counsels.

There will be a short quiz at the conclusion of the Webinar in the form of multiple choice questions on the content of the Webinar. The satisfactory completion of the multiple choice questions will serve as an actual proof of attendance in compliance with the requirements from CPD awarding bodies.
