On the occasion of the FIAA International Arbitration Advocacy Workshop: Questioning of Fact Witnesses in International Arbitration taking place in Beijing on 9-11 May, HK45 will take its Fireside Chat event to Beijing. HK45 will converse with two faculty members of the FIAA who are eminent practitioners in the field of international arbitration in the Asia-Pacfic region. Ms Kim Rooney

Kim Rooney is an international arbitrator and barrister, a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, and admitted to practise in Hong Kong, England & Wales and Australia. Before moving to become an arbitrator and barrister Kim was a partner of White & Case LLP heading its Hong Kong based Asian international dispute resolution practice. She is a member of the Hong Kong Bar Association' s Council and chairs its Standing Committee on International Practice. Kim' s arbitration experience as arbitrator and counsel includes in disputes around the world (including many countries on the Belt & Road) in the banking and financial services, commercial, construction, infrastructure (including energy and power, mining, telecommunications and water), investment, IT and trade sectors, involving investors, state owned enterprises and states under ICSID, institutional and ad hoc arbitration rules. Kim chaired the Hong Kong Law Reform Commission' s Subcommittee on Third Party Funding for Arbitration. Its Final Report on Third Party Funding for Arbitration published in October 2016 annexed draft amendment legislation to the Arbitration Ordinance Cap 609 that formed the basis of its Part 10A allowing third party funding of proceedings thereunder that was fully implemented on 1 February 2019. Kim is the editor of the IBA's "Dispute Resolution International" and vice chair of eBRAM Centre, an online dispute resolution centre being established in Hong Kong.


Professor LU Song

Mr. LU Song is a professor of law at China Foreign Affairs University and an independent arbitrator. Graduated from the Law Department of Peking University in 1982, he has taught law courses since 1986 at China Foreign Affairs University, later at MIDS program of Geneva University and IADS program of Tsinghua Law School. In 1989 he was admitted to practise Chinese law and began serving as arbitrator. Mr. Lu has served as arbitrator in around 500 arbitrations under the rules of CIETAC, BAC, SCIA, HKIAC, SHIAC, SIAC, ICC, UNCITRAL and CAS. He is currently an ICSID mediator designated by PRC government and a member of International Commercial Expert Committee of the PRC Supreme People's Court.
