John has a broad practice in commercial litigation and international arbitration, and has particular interests in international trade, shareholders’ disputes, and company and insolvency matters. Becoming coming to the Bar, John obtained a first class BA degree and completed the Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford. He received the Bar Scholarship in 2020.
Cherry is developing a broad practice in civil and commercial law with a particular focus on commercial, company, insolvency securities, competition and regulatory matters. She is also regularly instructed to act as counsel in arbitrations and related court applications. She has dealt with various arbitration cases in the HKIAC, SIAC and LCIA. She is also experienced in dealing with regulatory matters involving securities and competition matters and is regularly instructed to appear as counsel and/or provide legal opinion in related matters.
Cherry is also well sought after for her advice on compliance matters due to her experience in civil, commercial, securities and competition matters. Her clients include various listed companies, especially those in the pharmaceutical industry. Her professional experience and her deep understanding of the Chinese culture make her a popular choice amongst clients.
Cherry was recognised by Legal 500 as a Rising Star in commercial dispute resolution in 2021 to 2024: "Cherry‘s judgement and output is far superior to her year of call and she is incredibly bright, really thinks around the case, and fights hard to achieve the best outcome for the client. She is a very good team player with great tactical awareness, and as one of the few barristers with native Mandarin abilities, she is in pole position to deliver effective results in cases involving Mainland elements."
Kinsey has dual qualification in both Hong Kong (2012) and GBA (2022). She is the vice-president of the Hong Kong Legal Professional Advancement Association and a member of the Standing Committee on Mainland Affairs of the Hong Kong Bar Association. She has a broad practice in commercial litigation, company and insolvency matters, employment disputes and international arbitration. She was involved in various cases in the HKIAC and acted as expert on Hong Kong Law in arbitration cases in CIETAC. She is often retained by mainland clients, including state-owed entities and various listed companies, to advise on matters including cross-boarder litigation/transaction, employment issues, international arbitration, enforcement of mainland judgment/arbitral award in Hong Kong.
Leon has dual legal education and professional qualification background in both the Mainland and Hong Kong.
Before becoming a practicing barrister in Hong Kong, Leon worked as an in-house counsel in the Legal & Internal Control Department of a state-owned enterprise in Beijing. He is therefore able to fully understand Mainland Chinese clients, communicate with them effectively, and provide practical legal opinion and dispute resolution options from the perspective of both jurisdictions.
Leon specializes in handling cross-border civil and commercial litigation cases as well as international arbitration cases. He handles all areas of practice of our Chambers, with particular focus on corporate/commercial disputes, land/trust/probate disputes, securities regulations and white-collar crime.
