The Hong Kong Mediation Council (HKMC) is hosting a series of Webinars entitled "Mediation Insight Series" in order to update the knowledge of mediators and hone their practical skills. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the events will not be held physically but conducted online via ZOOM.


This is the first Webinar which will highlight the soft skills necessary for the success of a commercial mediation, in particular, the need to foster empathy. It will cover the following topics:


  • The essential components of a settlement agreement;
  • Practical considerations on drafting a settlement agreement, e.g. parties, subject matters, manners of payment, etc. based on a hypothetical commercial dispute;
  • The necessary elements in an effective apology;
  • What is forgiveness to disputing parties ?
  • A mediator's role in facilitating apology and forgiveness
  • Questions and Answers session
