Claudia is a partner at Baker McKenzie. Since 2010, she heads the Dispute Resolution practice in Colombia. In 2018, she was appointed Chair of the Latin America DR practice and since 2019 Claudia is the Global Chair of the Firm's Dispute Resolution Group.
Claudia is a highly-regarded expert in transnational litigation and international arbitration. She has over 20 years of extensive experience handling complex litigations and arbitrations related to construction and infrastructure projects, post-acquisition disputes, disputes in the energy sector, distribution and supply agreements, unfair competition, product liability, insolvency and general breach of contract.
Claudia is also a listed arbitrator of the panel of arbitrators of the Center of Arbitration of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá for both, domestic and international arbitration; a listed arbitrator of the Panel of Arbitrators of the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Center); and a listed arbitrator of the Panel of Arbitrators of the Arbitration Court of Amcham Peru.
Claudia has been ranked by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 as an expert in the field of dispute resolution. According to these publications, the group led by Claudia "'generates absolute confidence' according to clients who highlight the team's 'efficiency, agility and commitment', 'broad market knowledge', and 'careful follow-up of cases", pointing that "It is led by the 'expert' and 'deeply involved' Claudia Benavides whose 'intelligence, diligence and acuity to foresee legal risks', make her a stand out legal adviser." Chambers and Partners Latin America notes that "Claudia Ines Benavides Galvis is praised by interviewees for her "wide knowledge of the area, precision and in-depth background" in the field of dispute resolution." She has been ranked Band 1 in Chambers & Partners' individual ranking and in the "Leading Lawyer" listing by The Legal 500. The prestigious publication Who's Who Legal: Arbitration describes her as one of the world experts in arbitration and Benchmark Litigation featured her in the Top 25 Latam Women in Litigation listing. The team led by Claudia is ranked Tier 1 in the prestigious directory The Legal 500. In addition, she was recently awarded by Best Lawyers 2020 "Lawyer of the Year" for Litigation and recognized by such publication as a leader in Arbitration, International Arbitration and Mediation.
Claudia has been actively involved with academia. She regularly speaks in important national and international conferences and she is the author of several articles related to her practice.
Omar Puertas joined the firm’s international litigation and arbitration team at the Barcelona office in 2000. From 2002 to 2003, he worked in the international arbitration team at the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP, where he was involved in major international arbitration disputes involving Latin American parties (AAA, ICC).
He moved to Shanghai in 2007 to set up the first Cuatrecasas office in Asia. As managing partner of the Shanghai office until 2019, he consolidated the advisory services for inbound and outbound investments in China and Asia and abroad. He also developed a strong dispute resolution practice with an Asian, European and Latin American dimension (CIETAC, SHIAC, SIAC, HKIAC).
He is a member of the panel of arbitrators of the Shanghai International Arbitration Center.
He lectures on commercial disputes resolution, participates in moot arbitrations and writes about arbitration on a regular basis.
Secretary General of the Madrid Court of Arbitration since 2018. Associate Professor of Corporate Law and Arbitration at IE University since 2011.
He specializes in litigation and arbitration. Prior to joining the Court he was a partner at Arias Abogados SLP. He has acted as arbitrator, counsel and administrative secretary in over 30 arbitrations, 22 of them international, in jurisdictions across Europe, America and Africa (15 cases administered by the ICC, 6 by the CAM, 2 by the CEA, 2 by the CIMA, 1 by the SCC, 1 by the CCL, 1 by the VIAC and 3 ad hoc arbitrations). He has also practiced extensively in the fields of corporate governance and company law.
He is a member of the IBA Consumer Litigation Committee and the IBA Arbitration Guidelines and Rules Subcommittee, as well as of the Board of Editors of the ICC Dispute Resolution Bulletin.
He obtained his B.A. in Law and Political Science at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2006. In 2005, he attended Cambridge University for an academic year.
He received a scholarship from the Rafael del Pino Foundation to pursue his LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law, which he obtained at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2010.
He speaks Spanish and English. He also reads and understands French and Italian.
He is ranked as up and coming in Dispute Resolution Spain by the Chambers and Partners legal directories, Chambers Global and Chambers Europe, 2016 and 2017.
Kiran Sanghera is Special Counsel at HKIAC. She leads HKIAC's domain name dispute resolution team, oversees HKIAC's business development activities, and speaks and writes on dispute resolution including arbitration.
Prior to taking her position at HKIAC, Kiran worked as Director of Litigation Funding at Harbour Litigation Funding where she was responsible for developing the third party funding market across Asia.
Kiran has also previously worked at HKIAC as counsel handling the administration of commercial arbitrations involving parties from Asia, Europe and the Americas, and was responsible for promoting HKIAC’s dispute resolution services and Hong Kong arbitration in Latin America (2013-2014). She also previously worked at the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris.
Kiran is the past Co-Chair of HK45 (2018-2020 term), she currently sits on the Steering Committee of the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations, and is a member of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Legal Committee.
