Overview
WIA Coffee Roulette is a series of bi-monthly events, aiming to provide a platform for worldwide arbitration practitioners to connect with each other and to encourage cross-cultural exchanges in the international arbitration community.
Each of the bi-monthly events will be divided into two parts:
- The first part is a 30-minute Main Room chat between a WIA host and a guest speaker
- The second part is a 30-minute Satellite Room chat. Each participant will be paired with another participant, who could be our guest speaker, in a Satellite Room for a private and informal chat. The Satellite Room chat will be entirely led by the two participants
The Main Room chat of the first WIA Coffee Roulette will be hosted by Weina Ye, International Partner of Herbert Smith Freehills Kewei Joint Operation Office, and joined by Sarah Grimmer, Independent Arbitrator of Twenty Essex, as the guest speaker.

Independent Arbitrator at Twenty Essex
Sarah Grimmer is Secretary-General of Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. She was formerly Senior Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) where she acted as registrar in several inter-State arbitrations under the Law of the Sea Convention and served as tribunal secretary in multiple investment treaty arbitrations and contract-based claims.
Prior to joining the PCA, Sarah served as Assistant Counsel at the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris. She was also a member of the international arbitration group at Shearman & Sterling LLP in Paris, prior to which she worked in private practice in Auckland. In 2015, Sarah was appointed to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon Disciplinary Board. She is a member of the ICCA-ASIL Task Force on Damages (2016), ICCA Publications Committee (2015), the IBA Investment Arbitration Subcommittee (2014), New Zealand ICC Arbitration Committee (2014), and the IBA Arb40 Steering Committee (2013).

Weina is a leading disputes lawyer in regional and local markets, specialising in international arbitration and cross-border commercial dispute resolution. She has over a decade of experience in representing Chinese and multinational clients in international arbitration cases and advising clients on the resolution of complex and high value cross-border commercial disputes. Weina’s experience covers a range of commercial disputes in sectors including TMT, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and energy, and relating to private equity investments, M&A transactions and joint ventures.
Weina has represented clients and acted as an advocate in arbitration cases administered by Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Arbitration Institution of the Stockholm Chambers of Commerce (SCC) and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and conducted under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. She is also a listed arbitrator with Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission / Shanghai International Arbitration Centre (SHIAC), Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC) and Hangzhou Arbitration Commission. She is dually qualified to practice in England & Wales and Mainland China and speaks English and Mandarin Chinese.
